Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
We picked Mark’s block of Gewurztraminer the same day as our second pick of the Chardonnay, in the waning days of harvest (of course, Mark’s Riesling kept us at it until early November). The crop this year was a record of nearly a ton of fruit, giving us our largest case court ever at 51. Upon first sniff, the wine leads with lime/kiwi tropical notes, showing both its tart and creamy nature. Further time in the glass brings up honeysuckle and lily of the valley tones, adding a nice floral framing to the fruit. The mouth has just the right amount of unctuousness to play with the zesty brightness, interweaving grapefruit and mango with a touch of exotic lychee in its elegant balance.
Production Notes
Our hedonistic goal in crafting this wine is to bring out the ebullient aromatics and cleansing minerality that Gewürztraminer expresses in the best sites. It has been said that aromatic varieties (like gewürtz and riesling) show site more than any other, and this offering might be an argument for that position. To this end, we ferment the wine in stainless steel at a cool 50 degrees F and bottle after in the early spring after harvest. This retains the fresh esters of fermentation and the central core of fruit. We also employ an Alsatian yeast strain that enhances the floral aromatics that are the varietal signature of this wine. Gewürztraminer is all about the vineyard fruit personality, and what a charming personality it is.

Food Pairing Notes
As always, foods with a touch of spice make a great foil for the wine. Try it with a green seafood curry, Szechuan noodles, or a simple pork stir-fry. Nearly any cheese will love the wine, but we like to keep to milder ones like buratta and fresh farmer’s cheese to really let the wine shine.
